Electricity Tariffs Will Rise In Indonesia

House of Representatives Commission VII will begin discussion of the basic tariff increase of electricity (TDL) of the proposed government for an average of 15 percent starting in July 2010, in the next week.

Members of the House of Representatives Commission VII Romahurmuziy in Jakarta, Wednesday (14/4/2010) said, according to the Act No.30 Year 2009 on Electricity, the electricity tariff setting should be through the approval of Parliament. “We will listen to the explanation of government,” he said.

According to him, the House will see the details and reasons for the government raised the TDL. “In the discussion, we certainly will develop according to the current environment,” he added.

Romahurmuziy say, in principle, the Parliament can understand the increase in TDL’s plan, but must be accompanied by a rational reason. Parliament, he added, also wants an increase TDL does not incriminate customers lower class households.

Meanwhile, Director General of Electricity and Energy Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources J. Purwono said, the increase in TDL should be done because it will reduce electricity subsidies due to soaring fuel costs keaikan plant.
“In six months ie from July to December 2010, according to our count, there are savings subsidy of Rp 7.3 trillion if the increase in TDL is determined,” he said.

According to him, according to the government scenario, the increase is not too burdensome TDL small electricity customers with power class ie 450 volt ampere (VA) and VA 900.

The government plans to increase TDL for small customers by 10 percent after the use of electricity over 30 kWh per month. Thus, the VA, and 900 450 customers who only use the VA under 30 kWh of electricity per month, can not get the rate increase. As for electric customers over the middle to 1300 VA to the top will be exposed to between 14-18 percent increase in TDL.

The government expects the second half of 2010, people’s purchasing power has improved, so the increase in TDL is not too burdensome. In accordance with Law No.47 Year 2009 concerning the State Budget 2010, Parliament had been allowing the government to raise the TDL. However, the increase is in accordance with Law No.30 Year 2009 on Electricity, need to be approved by Parliament.
